Debi Schwerdtfeger’s Lead Culminates In Mayoral Win

The Morris County Election Officer, Morris County Commissioners, Morris County Attorney and a few onlookers including mayoral writein candidate Ryan McDonald observed the official Canvass of Votes held Tuesday afternoon in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room where provisional votes were considered, opened and counted. In the end, the tight race for Council Grove Mayor was decided 211-203 in favor of Debi Schwerdtfeger. 203 votes were garnered by Ryan McDonald a late comer who launched a write-in candidacy ten days before the election. VETERAN’S DAY OBSERVANCE

VETERAN’S DAY OBSERVANCE -- Area second grade students were presented American Flags and holders as part of a Veterans Day observance. Council Oak DAR flag chairman, Pat Schneider, told each class some facts about the American Flag. Responses to the questions of the students were impressive, as the students knew much about the flag symbolism. The Council Oak Chapter assumed this long-standing event when Don Peterson’s health was failing. He had been doing this for many years with the help of Lowell Scripter, who made the holders for the flags. Each holder has two holes for flags. The second hole is for the Kansas flag to be presented next January. The Adams Hardware of Council Grove supplied the American Flags for the students.
