Council Grove has a way of making people love it. In my conversation with Connie Essington last week, she laughed when she remembered coming here for the first time in 1958. She remembers people growing corn in their front yards and gawking at her and her husband Don as they entered a downtown café. They were in town considering relocating Don’s dentistry practice to Council Grove. Connie says she wasn’t quite sure about the town but then Dr. Morrow gave them a tour of the town and the City Lake. By the time they returned to the city limits, the Essingtons knew that Council Grove would be their home.
