COUNCIL GROVE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
COUNCIL GROVE CHRISTIAN CHURCH -- Taken in June of 1909, this photo shows the congregation of Council Grove Christian Church. The photo was sent to the Republican by reader Lynn Oberle who noted that that picture was given to her by her mother Mary Ruth (Carr) Lakey who had received the photo in the 1960s from Harold “Tiny” Elzea. Elzea was a railroad worker and fireman in Council Grove in the early 1900s. The church was founded in 1881 and moved to its current location on Main Street in 1903, with a number of enlargements over the following years.
