Dr. Jennifer Gordon, a retired educator from Topeka and Vivian Viggiano, of Boston Massachusetts and Sarah Gordon of Topeka were in Council Grove last month researching their family’s history at the Morris County Historical Society’s Archives.
As we pause to reflect on National Newspaper Week, October 6-12, 2024, and what it means to us and our community, one of the first things that stands out is that although Council Grove has a population of about 2200 and Morris County’s population is about 5400, we publish a hard copy newspaper Monday – Friday, unless there is a holiday or our printer takes off an extra day adjacent to a holiday.
The Braves hosted over 300 athletes on Thursday and the Council Grove harriers had a solid day. The temps were warm again as everyone was hoping for cooler weather and faster times at the Council Grove Cross Country Invitational.
In recognition of this month’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness, Pink Gravel wants to remind residents of Morris, Chase, Dickinson, Lyon and Wabaunsee Counties about the Pink Gravel Fund – a donor advised fund opened in October of 2021 by Jon and Amy Naaf. The purpose of the Pink Gravel Fund is to provide “a gift” in the form of a grant to those individuals that have been diagnosed, being treated or have recently completed treatments for breast cancer.
