The December 2023 USD 417 Board of Education Meeting was held Monday night at the District Office in Council Grove.
Council Grove High School had two bracket champions and finished fourth of 13 teams Saturday in Ellis at the 2023 Railer Round Robin Wrestling Tournament. Hill City won the tightly-contested team title.
This week’s student of the week at Council Grove Elementary School is Aria Gilliam. She is six-yearsold and a student in Brier Blythe’s kindergarten class. Aria likes to jump on the trampoline with her brother. She also likes tug of war, and cleaning with her mom. Her extracurricular activities include dance, and her favorite non-school thing to do is go to the swimming pool. Aria likes to travel, she travels a lot to the mall. She has two dogs, Ringo and Bo and one brother.
NAMED CC COACH OF THE YEAR -- Brent Smitheran, formerly of Council Grove, has been named the 2023 5A Kansas Cross Country Coach of the year by the Kansas Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association. Smitheran teaches and coaches at Spring Hill High School. Smitheran is also the crafter the Council Grove Republican recently covered who creates duck calls.
