On December 30, at approximately 7:40 p.m., sheriff deputies stopped a vehicle at Mackenzie Street & Elm Street in White City. During the traffic stop K9 “Kimber” was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted that resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Blanche Martin, of Council Grove, won week 17 of the Council Grove Pigskin Pick ‘Em Football Contest. Martin correctly guessed 15 out of 17 contests. The number of games judged included the “free” one as well as the Monday Night Football game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. The Monday night game was suspended indefinitely when Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after a collision with Bengals receiver Tee Higgins in the first quarter. After on-field treatment and CPR, an automated external defibrillator was used. Hamlin was transported to a hospital where he is in critical condition. The NFL has not set a new date and time for a rematch.
Ethan Burton, a senior at Council Grove Junior/Senior High School, has been selected to play in the 50th Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl Game, 7 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Lewis Field Stadium at Fort Hays State, in Hays. He will represent the West Team. Burton is the grandson of Council Grove resident Denise Kosmicki.
