The 11th Annual Jewell County Plow Day is in the books. The event was held on July 19, on Jewell County’s 160 Road just north of Couch Cemetery. The land is part of Joe and Kari Eilert’s farm operation. The Eilert’s hosted the event.
The Morris County Historical Society in conjunction with Humanities Kansas will be hosting “The Wizard Behind Oz,” a presentation and discussion by Chris Glasgow on Saturday, August 10, at 2 p.m. at the Carnegie Archives and Research Center, 303 W. Main in Council Grove.
A well-attended meeting was held Thursday night at St. Anthony’s Hall in Strong City. Conversation from the candidates focused on the impact of redistricting on Kansas’ congressional candidates, with a particular emphasis on representation for rural areas and the challenges of maintaining conservative values in the fa e of urbanization. Other topics included government’s role in helping people, personal stories of constituents and the challenges and solutions in local government, including improved cybersecurity, welfare reform and congressional candidates’ platforms. Candidates also shared their plans to ensure community safety, with a focus on involving youth, working with schools and addressing drug-related issues.
