US Postal Service Announces A Pause In Rate Increases

The Postal Service announced late last week it will not raise postage rates in January. While the USPS news release specifically referred to no increases for stamps, the National Newspaper Association has confirmed that Periodicals rates, which includes the periodical Council Grove Republican, will also remain at current levels until at least July 2025. This will be the first time since the beginning of 2023 that the USPS has refrained from raising postal rates twice a year.

Khloe Lif Advances To District Barrel Racing Competition

Council Grove teen, Khloe Lif, competed in last week’s NBHA (National Barrel Horse Association) Kansas State Finals, held in Topeka at the Domer Livestock Facility. This event was not only special to Lif for being the first time competing at NBHA state level, but extra special because the theme of this year’s event was “Buck Cancer”. This event helped promote cancer awareness and many were there wearing ribbons of all colors honoring those who have fought or are currently fighting, like Lif’s brother Ethan.

Motorcyclist Airlifted Following Accident

On Sept. 18, at 10:20 a.m., Terry Davis, 70, Council Grove, was traveling east on US 56 near the Morris/ Lyon County line when he crossed the center line to turn north onto S. 1000 Rd. Rodney Olson, 62, Lehi, UT, driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle, attempted to pass and struck the rear of Davis’ Ford F-150. Olson was life-flighted to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with serious injuries. Davis was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
