When volunteers come together at Pioneer Bluffs, great things happen. The air fills with laughter and conversation as coffee is poured and stories are swapped. Like an oldtime barn raising, the work goes fast as everyone works together.
The Military Women’s Memorial (MWM) is the nation’s only National Memorial and Education Center dedicated to military women, honoring and preserving their service for all time. Located at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery, the Memorial recognizes the patriotism and bravery of women veterans and records their contributions in the MWM Register, a unique interactive database that documents names, service details, photographs, and personal stories.
As setup continued Wednesday at Emporia American Legion Post 5, anticipation grew for the official opening of The Wall That Heals on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
During the 2025 Santa Fe Trail Symposium, an “eastern bus tour” will be offered to sites in Lyon and Osage Counties. The edible pattern shown above will be served as treats to those on the tour, which will visit sites between Council Grove and Burlingame. The cookies will be made by Maddie Raes Bakery in Overland Park, KS.
