Morris and Chase Counties in federal request for aid

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has requested federal assistance for 17 Kansas counties affected by severe storms and flooding between June 3 and June 7, 2025. In a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Gov. Kelly asked for a major presidential disaster declaration under the Public Assistance Program, citing significant damage to public infrastructure. She emphasized the need for federal support to help rural electric cooperatives and municipally owned utilities rebuild electric utility systems damaged during the storms.

KANSAS! MAGAZINE HIGHLIGHTS CG’S NEOSHO RIVERWALK AMPHITHEATER -- The most recent issue of KANSAS! magazine (Issue 4) features Council Grove’s Neosho Riverwalk Amphitheater in an article by Nick Spacek titled Summer Nights, Amplified, highlighting outdoor venues offering live music and good vibes. The piece notes that while the amphitheater is small, it is a significant community asset. Renovations began in May 2021 at the Old Riverbed Amphitheater in Neosho Riverwalk Park, resulting in a modernized structure with native limestone seating and a 1,100-person capacity. Other amphitheaters mentioned in the article were Azura Amphitheater in Bonner Springs (population 7,832 and located on the western edge of the Kansas City metroplex), WAVE in downtown Wichita (population 400,500) and Capital Federal Amphitheater in Andover Central Park (population 17,000). This is another example highlighting that Council Grove’s offerings rival those of cities many times its size.
