Kansas State Historical Society Kaw Mission Site Administrator, and local resident. Mark Brooks was guest speaker at this week’s Council Grove Rotary. He announced that although there is no set date for opening, the museum will be free once it opens this year.

Council Grove resident and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Warden Jake Spear was promoted last year to lieutenant. Although still living in Council Grove, he has a much larger area to manage south, toward Oklahoma, to manage. To continue coverage in the area, the State moved Warden Layne Watkins in to cover Morris and Chase Counties. Wardens are the law enforcement branch of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.

TOPEKA (AP) — Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly called Tuesday for Kansas officials to stop distracting themselves with “wedge issues” in education, sharply rebuking a Republican-controlled Legislature pursuing policies catering to conservative parents unhappy with public schools.
