After thirteen years of service, three years in Morris County, Carl Jarboe is retiring from the Morris County Natural Resources Conservation Service. Carl started working for NRCS in fall of 2009 when he was hired as the Soil Conservation Technician in the Barber County office stationed in Medicine Lodge. He would spend ten years in that office working to develop watering pipeline systems for the rugged terrain that is the Gypsum Hills of the Medicine Lodge area. In that office he also was able to share his love of wildflowers and the native plants of Kansas through the annual Wildflower tour hosted by the Soil Conservation District each Mother’s Day weekend. It was through this experience that he had the opportunity to help create the wildflower identification guide entitled Pocket Guide to Kansas Red Hills Wildflowers. Carl moved to the Morris County NRCS office in fall of 2019 and has enjoyed working in the Flint hills region of the state.
Trenton Blythe of White City is the recipient of this year’s Rising Famer/ Rancher Award. “Blythe’s have been around since 1890, and we’ve been able to expand the operation and make it something we’re pretty proud of,” Blythe said.
