WASHINGTON – Organic producers and handlers can now apply for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) funds to assist with the cost of receiving or maintaining organic certification. Applications for the Organic Certification Cost Share Program (OCCSP) are due Nov. 1, 2021.

On August 8, Charles Coulter of Eureka was traveling west on US-56 Highway in 2012 Ford F-350 hauling a water tank. The strap holding the water tank broke and the tank fell on to the highway. Along with the tank, a large metal cylinder also fell, striking the truck of Virgil Wigle of Council Grove. No injuries were reported and damage to both vehicles is unknown.

A Council Grove man was arrested on August 21 following a domestic disturbance on August 18 in which the subject fled the scene.
