The Council Grove City Council approved spending of $22,000 on Tuesday evening for engineering reports on the water and sewer system in the city, as well as the creation of a computer model of the city’s water distribution system. Brian Foster, an engineer with BG Consultants, was on hand to present information to the council about the scope of services to be performed by his company. BG Consultants will produce two preliminary engineering reports, one on the water distribution system and the other on the sanitary sewer system. The computer model the company will create will allow improvements to the water system to be mapped out and changes tested within the model rather than utilities workers having to dig up lines and test the changes by hand. The cost of each report will be $5,500 and the computer model will cost the city $11,000. The city will used COVID-19 relief funds to pay for the work. In addition, Foster noted that the sewer system could be videoed to make a complete record of the system and isolate locations for improvements. Foster and Utilities Superintendent Derrick Craige have already identified around 10,500 feet of sewer line most likely needing repair and the video will help to pin down those locations. Foster said that the video would cost around $11,000. The council was supportive of this idea and Foster will return with price quotes from companies that perform this task for approval by the council.
