ATHLETES OF THE MONTH -- The January Athletes of Month at Council Grove High School are Liz Armstrong and Eli Kormanik. Armstrong is a senior who is a captain on the Lady Braves Basketball team. She also participates in volleyball and softball. Kormanik is also a senior and participates in cross country, wrestling and baseball.
Audrey Dunkel, Vice President of Government Relations, at Kansas Hospital Association in Topeka was a guest speaker at this week’s Council Grove Rotary Club meeting. KHA’s mission is to be the leading advocate and resource for its members, which include community hospitals, insurance companies, health care systems and health care organizations. Dunkel’s role is to oversee advocacy for the organization’s members at the state and federal level.
You may have noticed higher price tags on many of the items you purchase these days, and meat is especially a culprit of raising prices. On average, a pound of meat costs 20% more than it did a year ago today. Unfortunately, ranchers are not seeing the same rise in profits.
Sixth grader Carter Bremer, seventh grader Riley Forge and fifth grader Hudson Lange were the champion spellers this week at the school spelling bees held across USD 417 on January 18 and 19. The top three contestants from each school will compete at the Morris County Spelling Bee on February 2.
Kansas Senator Roger Marshall will host a town hall in Cottownood Falls at 11 a.m. on January 29. The town hall will be held at HeBrews Coffee Shop and is expected to run around 45 minutes.
