Sixth grader Carter Bremer, seventh grader Riley Forge and fifth grader Hudson Lange were the champion spellers this week at the school spelling bees held across USD 417 on January 18 and 19. The top three contestants from each school will compete at the Morris County Spelling Bee on February 2.
Kansas Senator Roger Marshall will host a town hall in Cottownood Falls at 11 a.m. on January 29. The town hall will be held at HeBrews Coffee Shop and is expected to run around 45 minutes.
The Council Grove Braves Junior High Basketball team ended their season on Wednesday, taking on Mission Valley in the third place game at the Flint Hills Junior League Tournament. The Braves would fall to the Vikings 33-23.
The USD 417 Board of Education approved metrics in a special meeting Wednesday evening that will determine when students at district buildings will need to wear masks. The policy, based upon positive case rates in each building, was approved at the board’s regular meeting last week and administrators met earlier in the week to determine percentages for the district to allow students to unmask, to recommend masks or to require masks.
