OUTSTANDING WRESTLERS

Council Grove Braves wrestlers Jolie Ziegler and Wyatt Johnson were named Outstanding Wrestlers by tournament coaches at the Council Grove Wrestling Invitational, held on Friday and Saturday at Council Grove High School. Ziegler (right) won all five of her matches by pin in a combined time of less than three minutes to earn the 170 lb. title on Saturday. She is pictured with Coach Jay Doornbos. Wyatt Johnson would score his 100th career victory as a Brave on Friday, winning the 132 lb. title and also be named Most Valuable Wrestler by tournament coaches. He is pictured with assistant coaches Joe Buchanan and Matt Wilkens and Coach Jay Doornbos.

FIRST BABY -- The first baby of the year at Morris County Hospital was born on January 10 at 8:49 a.m. to parents Hannah and Justin Brown. Raylan Jeffrey Brown weighed 8 lbs. 7 oz. and measured 20 inches long. The Morris County Hospital Auxiliary sponsored a baby basket with a variety of merchandise for new babies.

ATHLETES OF THE MONTH -- The January Athletes of Month at Council Grove High School are Liz Armstrong and Eli Kormanik. Armstrong is a senior who is a captain on the Lady Braves Basketball team. She also participates in volleyball and softball. Kormanik is also a senior and participates in cross country, wrestling and baseball.

Audrey Dunkel, Vice President of Government Relations, at Kansas Hospital Association in Topeka was a guest speaker at this week’s Council Grove Rotary Club meeting. KHA’s mission is to be the leading advocate and resource for its members, which include community hospitals, insurance companies, health care systems and health care organizations. Dunkel’s role is to oversee advocacy for the organization’s members at the state and federal level.
