WILSEY FIRE -- Yesterday at approximately 3:09 p.m., the CGFD received a request from Wilsey Fire for water support for two pasture fires at 2600 and 2200 at BB avenue. Two CGFD crews responded. A third crew was sent later in the evening for additional water support. Multiple agencies responded to assist, as well as emergency managers and air tanker water drops. The fire was under control and clean up finished before midnight. The extent of property damage and property/livestock loss has not yet been reported. Information provided by Brian Brown, Council Grove Fire Rescue Assistant Chief/Public Information Officer. A further update on the fire will be included in Thursday’s edition of the Council Grove Republican.

PANCAKE CREW -- The White City United Methodist Church held its annual pancake breakfast on Saturday at the Simmons Fellowship Hall to raise funds for the Missions Committee and a silent auction to benefit local charities. Working the second of three shifts at the breakfast were (l-r) Brier Blythe, Sally Spooner, Nick Morgan, Marsha Tischhauser, Jim Parker, Kaitlyn Parker, JD Bahret and Mark Morgan.

Board Hears Accreditation Update, Discusses K-177 Alternate Bus Routes

The USD 417 Board of Education heard an accreditation update on Monday evening in advance of the Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) year five report that will be submitted by the district in the spring. Curriculum Director Kelly Gentry informed the board of the key metrics that would be addressed in the report and how the district had worked to meet these goals. The report will cover data from 2018-2021 and will also address district success in state board of education outcomes, including the development of individual plans of study by students, graduation rates and the post-secondary success of district graduates. An outside visitation team will visit the district on April 13 for presentation of the report.
