State Agricultural Representative Jake Wessel (left) and U. S. Senator Jerry Moran were Wednesday guests at the Council Grove Rotary Club meeting. Moran spoke to the group about a wide variety of issues facing Kansans today, including energy prices, inflation and agriculture.
Jolie Ziegler, second from left, took fourth place on Thursday in the Girls State Wrestling Tournament at Salina. On Wednesday, Ziegler picked up wins over Libbi Puga of Norton and Grace Stean of Tonganoxie to advance to competition on Thursday. She would take a loss in the semi-final round to Grace Johns of Chapman and score a win by decision over Sierra Lanning of Ellsworth in the consolation round. Winning first place in the 170 lb. weight class was Kylee Eastwood of LaCygne-Prairie View who defeated Grace Johns of Chapman to win the state championship.
Following last week’s pasture fire near Wilsey, the Republican was able to catch up with Jared Beary of Deer Creek Drones, who provided one of the stunning photos that captured the scope of the fire’s path.

PIZZA TIME -- The Council Grove Republican provided pizza and soft drinks to the Council Grove High School E-Trailblazer team on Wednesday, as a thank you for providing the newspaper with photos of high school activities. The 8 large pizzas and 8 liters of soft drinks were consumed in less than 20 minutes.
