As many who work north of Council Grove ponder the routes they will take when KS177 shuts down next month, I want to alert you to an employment ad that starts running on page 4 of today’s paper for the City of Emporia. PIZZA TIME -- The Council Grove Republican provided pizza and soft drinks to the Council Grove High School E-Trailblazer team on Wednesday, as a thank you for providing the newspaper with photos of high school activities. The 8 large pizzas and 8 liters of soft drinks were consumed in less than 20 minutes.
CHAMPS -- The Council Grove Braves Junior High Wrestling team were the winners of the Flint Hills Junior League Tournament on Tuesday evening, finishing with a score of 178.5. Chase County was second at 76 points, Mission Valley third with 52, West Franklin fourth at 35 and Central Heights in fifth with 22. On Monday, the team competed at Marion and Coach Dustin SanRomani said he was “proud of the effort put forth from all the wrestlers at Marion.” He added, “We are improving every time we compete on the mat. We still have things we are learning and things we need to improve, but everyone has a positive attitude and is willing to put in the work to get better.” The team will be in Quad action on March 1 at Mission Valley.
ROAD CLOSES MARCH 28 -- The first phase of K-177 reconstruction will begin Monday, March 28. During this phase of construction, K-177 will be closed for approximately 7.7 miles from Ave L, north of the Council Grove reservoir, continuing north to halfway between the K-4 junctions. Through traffic can follow the state detour from Council Grove to Herington to Junction City (See map above). KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a work zone. Check kandrive.org for updates and more information.
