The Council Grove Lady Braves Softball will be in action at the 3A State Tournament at Manhattan beginning on Thursday. The team is seeded third and will take on the sixth seeded Rossville team. The Lady Braves have a record of 21-2, while Rossville is 20-3 on the season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Field 4 of the Manhattan Twin Oaks Complex.
Jesse Rodgers was the winner of the John Goff Inspirational Athlete Award on Wednesday at the Senior Awards Assembly held at Council Grove High School. Rodgers, a participant in cross country, wrestling and track was described by the committee as an athlete who worked harder than anybody on the team, constantly led by example, led vocally and constantly mentored younger athletes. “This athlete got the most out of their athleticism,” said the committee. “This athlete faced heartbreak throughout their career as an athlete, but due to hard work and perseverance competed at the state level as a senior. “This athlete handled winning and losing with dignity and in a manner that was respectful. This athlete stands out simply due to how hard they worked and how they handled themselves.”
Council Grove Junior High School has announced that 66 students will be promoted to Council Grove High School in the fall. The 8th Grade Promotion and Awards ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday in Braves Gym at Council Grove Junior-Senior High School.
Members of the Class of 2022 at Council Grove High School have been awarded over $200,000 in scholarships. The scholarship announcements were made on Wednesday morning during the Senior Awards Assembly.
