TOP GRADUATES -- Cooper Askins (left) and Aleah Weaver graduated on Monday evening as the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Council Grove Junior High School eighth grade class. Sixty-six students were promoted during the ceremony at Braves Gym and will move on to Council Grove High School as the Class of 2026.
STATE BOUND -- The 4x100 Meter Relay team of (l-r) Ethan Burton, Joey Andres, Ahmed Mansaray and Jace Goodman qualified for state on Friday, finishing fourth at Regionals with a time of 43.78 and breaking the school record of 44.19 set in 1993 by the team of Brent Moses, Russell Wood, Bobby Reddick and Mike Casey. The team and other state qualifiers will compete at the State Track Meet at Cessna Stadium at Wichita State University on May 27 and 28.
The Council Grove Braves Track team was in action on Friday at 3A Regionals at Cheney High School, with a number of Braves qualifying for state and several school records set.
The Council Grove Lady Braves Softball will be in action at the 3A State Tournament at Manhattan beginning on Thursday. The team is seeded third and will take on the sixth seeded Rossville team. The Lady Braves have a record of 21-2, while Rossville is 20-3 on the season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Field 4 of the Manhattan Twin Oaks Complex.
Children and their families who like to fish in the Flint Hills have a couple of opportunities to win prizes for their catches this summer.
