Braves Manhandle Mission Valley, 59-28

After an extremely tough early season schedule, the Council Grove High School Braves basketball team went into the break with one thing in mind, to get better. That mentality obviously paid off when they traveled to Mission Valley on Wednesday night as they thoroughly dominated the Vikings from the opening tipoff on their way to a 59 - 28 win which moves the Braves to 2 - 5 on the season and evens their Flint Hills League record at 2 - 2.

WINNER! -- Brandy Villalobos captured this picture of first grader Owen Kelley as the referee raised his hand as the winner during a recent Council Grove Youth Wrestling Tournament in Chapman. Owen, son of Mike and Alicia Kelley, has already picked up a couple of victories this season in the 6u division. Brandy said “for a child that is always so happy, smiling and quite, he definitely is a strong competitor in all sports he participates in. He always makes me smile.”

Charlie Weeks is a graduate of Council Grove High School and has been working at the Hays House for 36 years. He walks about 8 blocks to work and stands on his feet all day washing dishes and then walks home 8 blocks. Perhaps you have seen him regularly walking on Main Street or Hockaday as he usually is toting a medium carryall on wheels.
