First and foremost, Rosie was a cowgirl, but the deceased Council Grove woman was much more.
Friday night was the opening game for the Council Grove Junior High basketball teams, and it was a struggle to score for the A Team from the opening tipoff. The Junior Braves had two, one-minute stretches in the first and third quarter where they scored 12-points and only managed to score 11 points the rest of the game. Despite that, they were able to pull out a 23-21 win over the visiting Lyndon Tigers to move to 1 - 0 on the season. “We struggle to put the ball in the bucket all night, but our pressure man defense was enough to get us the win”, Coach Dustin San Romani commented after the game. Only three Braves scored in the game with Reid Buttrey leading the way with 13 points, Bradley Doornbos scored 7 and Luke Stewart 3.
Hudson Hartman, of Council Grove, won week 9 of the Council Grove Pick ‘Em Football Contest, correctly guessing 13 out of 17 games. He will win $25 to use at any of the area’s sponsoring businesses. It was the second time this year that Hudson has won the weekly contest.
