The August meeting of USD 417 Board of Education was held Monday, August 12, 2024, at the District Office.
The annual Back-to-School Concert of Prayer will be held on Sunday, August 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the Council Grove High School Commons. The purpose of this gathering is for the churches in the USD 417 district to gather and lift up the schools (administration, faculties, staffs and students) in prayer for a productive and safe school year.
When I recently completed an “In Our Rearview Mirror” column for the Council Grove Republican, which was based on community happenings 25 years ago, Steve Crichton’s name appeared as a grant writer. I know Crichton as a police officer, firefighter, dog catcher and insurance professional but not as a grant writer. I wondered what else I would find when interviewing this Flint Hills son.
There is a new VA Clinic in Junction City, located at 623 Southwind Drive. To introduce themselves to the veteran community, a Vetfest will be held 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 22 to inform veterans of benefits, claims and resources available to them.
