First Baptist Church Serves 280+ At Free Dinner

The First Baptist Church, Council Grove, was busy blessing the community on Christmas Sunday as its congregation prepared, served and executed dine-in, carry-out and delivered meals. Over 280 meals were served, with 145+ of those being delivered to 24 locations, 70+ were take out and 65+ dined in the church fellowship hall. There were 6 vehicles/teams involved with the distribution of the delivered meals. In addition to meals being delivered to residential homes and apartment complexes, meals were sent to first responder facilities including the sheriff’s office, the Morris Co. Hospital and EMT facility, Diversicare and businesses open to the public on Christmas Day.

Traffic Stop Leads To Felony Drug Arrests

On December 23, 2022, at approximately 9:51 p.m., officers from the Council Grove Police Department conducted a traffic stop at Stevens and Preston in Council Grove. K9 Abby was deployed and gave a positive alert on the vehicle. After a probable cause search, and a subsequent search warrant execution on the vehicle, Amber Mefford, Eureka, was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to distribute within 1,000’ of a school, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Aggravated Child Endangerment.
