The Chase County Bulldogs dominated the first round of the Kansas high school 8-man I playoffs, securing a 50-0 victory over Sedan. The Bulldogs hosted Sedan at Ron Mayo Field in Cottonwood Falls. Coach Derick Budke said, “Big night again for the defense pitching their first shutout of the season.”
A weekend of college upsets affected all the contestants’ scores in the Council Grove Republican’s Pigskin Pick ‘Em Contest. In the end it was Don True, of Council Grove, who won by correctly guessing 12 out of 17 contests. The Sunday night game with the Indianapolis Colts at the Minnesota Vikings was the deciding game for five contestants who had tied for first place. The Minnesota Vikings beat the Indianapolis Colts 21-13 in Sunday night play. After the Vikings won, there was a first place tie for four contestants. True, who selected 34 total points as the tiebreaking score in the Detroit Lions/ Green Bay Packers game won. The total score was 38. True will receive a $25 gift certificate, redeemable at any of the contest sponsors.
Council Grove Junior / Senior High School hosted its Fall student blood drive on October 31, attracting students and faculty that were eager to make a difference. The event, organized in collaboration with the Community Blood Center, Dana Reddick, USD #417 Health Services Director, and Mrs. Coover and the HOSA-Future Health Professionals, aimed to collect much-needed blood donations to support local hospitals and medical facilities.

Each year on Thanksgiving, the National Football League hosts a handful of games, and it’s customary in many households to gather around the television with friends and family and take in some of the action on the gridiron, excitement that always features the Detroit Lions.
