According to the Lyon County Highway Department, the shoulder widening project from Americus to US Hwy. 56 just northeast of Bushong could continue into December.

When the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met in 1787 to debate what form of government the United States should have, there were no contemporary democracies in Europe from which they could draw inspiration. The most democratic forms of government that any of the convention members had personally encountered were those of Native American nations. Of particular interest was the Iroquois Confederacy, which historians have argued wielded a significant influence on the U.S. Constitution.
The outdoor drama Voices of the Wind People will once again come to life this weekend, bringing the powerful story of the Kaw (Kanza) people and early settlers of Council Grove to the stage of the outdoor amphitheater at the Neosho Riverwalk Amphitheater. Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21, at 8 p.m. each evening.
