TOPEKA— Kansas legal aid organizations who assist low-income individual clients with foreclosure prevention and community redevelopment are encouraged to apply for grant assistance through the Kansas Bar Foundation (KBF) Community Redevelopment and Homeowners Assistance (CRHA) Program.
OVERLAND PARK (AP) — A Democrat who has announced that he’s stepping down from the Kansas House will serve as state policy director for a national group that defends the rights of atheists and fights to keep religion out of government.
Calvary Lutheran Church will hold its annual ice cream social on Sunday, August 22, beginning at 5 p.m. A variety of ice cream, cakes and pies will be served, as well as water and tea. Seating will be provided in the fellowship hall and outside. Drive-thru service on the east side of the church building will also be available.
Council Grove was well represented at the 2021 Boys State session. In attendance were Eli Kormanik and Mark Andres, who were sponsored by American Legion Post # 121 in Council Grove. The two young men enjoyed having a memorable educational experience, and the Legion Post was happy to sponsor the pair.
“Military on the Santa Fe Trail” is the next event planned for Council Grove’s Santa Fe Trail 200 commemoration activities. It was 175 years ago, on August 27, 1846, when the Mormon Battalion encamped at Council Grove en route to the Mexican War. Their trek, from Council Bluffs, IA, to Santa Fe, NM, and on to San Diego, CA—some 1850 miles—was the longest sustained march in U.S. military history.
