The “Can You Identify?” photo in Thursday’s paper has been identified. It is the home of Dustin and Shelley Miller and located about 7 miles southeast of Council Grove.
The Morris County Sheriff’s Office has been notified of a scam involving someone identifying himself as an employee of the Sheriff’s Office. This has happened more than half a dozen times this week. Citizens received phone calls demanding immediate payment for unpaid fines or unsatisfied warrants usually related to the false allegation of missing jury duty.
Steve Fugate, age 77, is attempting to walk across the United States for the ninth time. He started in Vero Beach, Florida and is attempting to walk to Newport, Oregon. Normally such a distance will take him 6-8 months. He is eyeing the calendar and wondering if winter weather will interfere with his quest. He arrived in Council Grove Thursday after spending Wednesday in Allen. He will be here 1-2 days before he sets off north towards Manhattan. His mission is Love Life and share Love, one he holds dearly after the deaths of his son and daughter.
U. S. Representative Jake LaTurner was in the area Wednesday visiting the Council Grove Rotary Club, Morris County Hospital and Tiffany Cattle.
