Washunga Days Hidden Button Scavenger Hunt Clue #4: “Sittin’ on the front porch, pickin’ and singin’/ Talkin’ all about them good ol’ days”
PHIL COE -- At the July 15 and 16 Gunfight on the Santa Fe Trail, Paul Houston will present a first-person impression of the notorious Phil Coe. Houston will transport attendees back to the lawless days of the Old West and show how the son of a rich Texas rancher became a confederate soldier, gunfighter, gambler and saloon owner in the rough and tumble cowtown of Abilene, KS, and how his fate intersected with Wild Bill Hickok. Would you have taken the side of the young and weary drovers looking to let loose after a long drive up the Chisolm Trail or with the loose cannon Marshall Hickok, who was paid to keep the peace but had questionable methods of achieving law and order? Determining this will not be as easy as it appears.
CITIZENSHIP -- Ten Flint Hills Extension District 4-H members attended Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington, DC from June 5-10.
