They were known by many names along the cattle trails that crisscrossed the Kansas prairie: Fallen Frails, Nymphs of the Prairie, Doves of the Roost, Soiled Doves and more. These were the so called “disgraceful” women that worked in the saloons and dance halls of the Old West.
MATT PALMQUIST -- Council Grove resident Matt Palmquist recently passed his real estate exam and accepted a position with Whitetail Properties Real Estate as a Land Specialist. “The Flint Hills are teeming with wildlife sought after by hunters and anglers,” said Palmquist. “Many landowners don’t realize the true market value of their property when outdoor recreational opportunities are involved.” Palmquist grew up near Lindsborg and earned a degree in Wildlife Biology from Fort Hays State University. He previously worked for NRCS as a Soil Conservationist, but says his passion for hunting, the outdoors and building a rapport with landowners made Whitetail Properties a perfect fit.
CHUCK PETERS -- A special guest at the Gunfight on the Santa Fe Trail 2022 is Chuck Peters, who will be a guest gun safety speaker and will kick off both days of the event. Peters will discuss the importance of firearm safety and the safe use of firearms at reenactment events. Peters was involved in a tragic gunshot accident during a 2020 reenactment that nearly cost him his life. Organizer Dock Hinck says that Peters’ story is proof of miracles and second chances. An up and coming independent film actor, Peters has appeared in the films Death Alley and Cult of Blood and will appear in the upcoming film River Beauty.
