Area First Graders Reflect On The Kansas Flag

Kansans celebrate Kansas Day today, January 29. The first graders at Council Grove Elementary School and Prairie Heights Elementary School were asked by their teachers Lori May, Milo Butler and Joelene Stewart what they liked best about the Kansas flag and why. We recorded their written words exactly the way they were delivered to the Council Grove Republican. We thank the educators for sharing this Kansas Day experience with us.

WIN GIVES HIM A 27-4

Council Grove High School freshman Bradley Doornbos won the bracket at 120 pounds during the Fredonia Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday to push his season record to 27-4.

MC Commissioners Accepting Bids For Hay Lease, Hear Of Oil Leak In SW County

At last week’s Morris County Commission meeting, the county announced it will be accepting sealed bids for the lease of the County Hay Property. Notice of the bid opening was mailed to adjacent landowners. Sealed bids will be opened during the commissioners meeting at 9:30 a.m., on February 6, 2024.

The Year That Council Grove Lake Received $4

In our first segment of “Behind the Scenes at the Lake,” we talked about the infancy of the Council Grove Lake and the early years of Rick Sellers’ work. It was mentioned that the first camping sites were really picnic sites that were later upgraded with a layer of gravel and a number mounted designating the site number.
