Safety Upgrades For Seniors’ Homes

Many seniors want to spend as long as possible residing in the comforts of their own homes. According to AARP’s 2021 “Home and Community Preferences Survey,” more than three-quarters of U.S. adults age 50 and older prefer living at home. But getting older often comes with certain deficits that may not make current living situations the safest for seniors.

FLINT HILLS OUTLAWS -- The Flint Hills Outlaws will make their way to Council Grove on July 15 and 16 for the Gunfight on the Santa Fe Trail 2022. The group love doing impressions from the 1870s-80s, covering both serious and humorous events. This band of outlaws is chomping at the bit to hit the stage. Just don’t tell the Marshall they’re in town because many have prices on their heads.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR -- Tom Segebart, Council Grove, has been named Rookie of the Year by the Kansas Motor Carriers Association. A driver for Wal-Mart Transportation, Segebart was named the 2022 Rookie of the Year after finishing with the highest overall point total and course score in the tournament. 10 different companies sent drivers to the tournament, which was held June 17 and 18 in Topeka, where they were given a vehicle inspection, written test, and a six-part driving challenge. During an awards banquet Saturday, the top three drivers of eight different classes were presented with trophies. The first place of each class will advance to the National Truck Driving Championships on August 16 - August 19 in Indianapolis. (Photo by WIBW)
