On June 30, James McKenzie, 59, Council Grove was traveling on South 1000 Road and K4 Highway when his vehicle hit several pot holes in the road, causing his 2002 Chevy Silverado to leave the roadway and run over a wingwall. The truck then struck a tree, with damage done to the vehicle’s front end. No injuries were reported.
In accordance with Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) guidelines, each middle and high school student planning to participate in sports this school year must be trained in concussion symptoms and protocols. A free course/ training will be held at 6 p.m. on August 9 in the Council Grove High School Auditorium.
The sidewalk connecting Cottonwood Falls and Strong City will soon be lit.
Ten Council Grove High School students attend the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference in Chicago from June 29-July 3. The students competed in a number of events, attended workshops and were able to trade state pins with other chapters at the conference. The chapter was also able to visit the Museum of Science and Industry, the Illusion Museum and take a Segway tour.
Sabrina Eyre said inspiration for her first-ever mural, painted on the side of a Council Grove business, came from a Quaker hymn.
