The Council Grove Lake Has Aged

In our earlier segments of Behind the Scenes at the Lake, we covered conversations we had with Rick Sellers, who retired in 2015 as Lake Manager of the Council Grove Lake (reservoir). He was followed by Mike Lowry. Mike Lowry has been in touch with the Council Grove Republican and due to previous out-of-town commitments, will meet with me in about a month, so we will move on to present day, and gain a wealth of information from current Lake Manager Gary Kepley. Kepley’s official title is Deputy Operations Project Manager for the Kansas Area Tulsa District. He has been employed at Council Grove Lake since 2015, initially as an assistant to Mike Lowry and then as Lake Manager.

CGES Kindergarten Roundup is March 28

Thursday, March 28, is Council Grove Elementary School’s Kindergarten Roundup. Parents of incoming kindergarten students should contact CGES at 620-767-6851 to have their child’s name placed on the kindergarten list for 2024-2025. At that time, the child will be placed in the morning or the afternoon roundup session. Children currently enrolled in the school district’s Pre-K program are already enrolled.

BNSF Cuts Jobs In Kansas, Nebraska

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) announced this week that it was cutting some jobs at mechanical shops located in Nebraska and Kansas. However, no details about the cuts were provided, such as where they took place, or the number of people involved. News reports regarding the number of layoffs differed, but it appears that at least 100 positions were cut.
