Council Grove Nominated As Best Small Town
Council Grove has been nominated in USA Today’s 2024 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel awards! An USA travel panel selected Council Grove as a contender for Best Small Town in the Midwest. The contest gives voters four weeks to vote for the candidate of their choice at https://www.10best.com/.../bestsmall-town -in-the.../. A person can vote once a day for the run of the contest. Only U. S. votes will count.
Austrians Visit Council Grove, Seeking WWI POW Answers
Austrians Sabine Bauer, age 43, and her father Artur Peter Bauer, age 70, were recently in Council Grove as tourists while seeking answers to the WWII whereabouts of Artur’s father and Sabine’s grandfather, Alois Artur Bauer, who was a Prisoner of War held in Kansas from 1943-1946.
Former Resident Is Grizzly Bear Bowhunter
Jake King, a former Council Grove resident and 2003 graduate of Council Grove High School, who lives in Dodge City and works for Caterpillar, has quite a reputation as an Alaskan bear bowhunter. King is the son of Ben and Susan King of Council Grove. When he was stationed in Alaska with Caterpillar, he bow-hunted and fished.
