Interview With Former Lake Manager Mike Lowry – Part 2

In the first segment with former Council Grove Lake manager Mike Lowry, he talked about the purposes of the reservoir, the mind-boggling statistics of visitors, dollars and jobs brought to the area. Lowry talked about how technology had made his job easier but societal preferences for larger RVs had been challenging. He reiterated that in the 1960s and the 1970s, the Tulsa and Kansas City District’s Corps of Engineers built a lot of reservoirs and structures with a 100-year life span. The Corps’ reservoirs are aging out at the same rate and will reach their 100-year life in the 2060s or 2070s.

Local fisherman extraordinaire, Mike Pavone raised some eyebrows when he landed a rare leucistic or piebald blue catfish at the Council Grove Reservoir Outlet area, where many fishermen have caught smiles and memories to last a lifetime! Goodness, the stories the outlet could tell!
