Brian Gant Wins Pigskin’s Pick-‘Em

Week 7 of the Council Grove Republican’s Pigskin Pick ‘em Contest was a challenge for many. After the Pittsburgh Steelers won their Sunday night game with the NY Jets 37-15, we had a 3-way tie for first place. The total of the tiebreaking score between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers was 46. Brian Gant, of Council Grove, had the closest score of 45, without going over and is the winner of Week 7. Gant correctly guessed 12 out of 17 games and will receive a $25 gift certificate, which is redeemable at any of our sponsors.

Braves Struggle On Senior Night, Lose 22-6 To St. Marys

On Senior Night, Oct. 18, the Braves of Council Grove fell short against St. Marys, suffering a 22-6 loss. St. Marys struck first, connecting on a 22-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and adding another blow with a 62-yard bomb in the second quarter to boost the lead to 16-0. The Braves fought back just before halftime when Luke Stewart found Hayden Buttrey on a 7-yard touchdown reception, but a failed two-point conversion left the score at 16-6 heading into the break.

Chase County Bulldogs Dominate Northern Heights Wildcats 52-6

Chase County set the tone early Friday night, in its contest with Northern Heights. Guthrie Danford brokr free for a 55-yard touchdown run, followed by a successful twopoint conversion, giving the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead. Wyatt Griffin found Luke Budke for a 29-yard touchdown pass shortly after, with Budke securing another two-point conversion. Griffin added a 24-yard touchdown run, while Budke continued to shine with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Griffin to close the first quarter at 30-0.
