The Council Grove Community Thrift Store is offering up to twelve scholarships to the 2025 graduating seniors in the USD 417 and 481 schools. These scholarships are made possible through merchandise sales and generous donations from the store’s faithful customers.
Prairie Heights Elementary School, with the implementation of the Twister Thrift Shop, has changed to a monthly Terrific Twister. PHES principal Angela Harris said, “Students have the opportunity to put tokens into the Terrific Twister drawing. Kresten Armbrust, 3rd grade, is the PHES Terrific Twister for February. Armbrust’s hobby is drawing and his biggest dream is to be an artist. What he likes most about school is the report he is doing now. When asked to tell us three awesome things about himself he said he is kind of funny, he admits he is weird and he can mostly listen in class. We think Kresten is terrific!”
Shari Matthews is scheduled to retire from Tri-County Telephone (TCT) on March 14, concluding a 27-year career in customer service. Matthews began her journey with the company at the Council Grove office, witnessing significant technological and organizational transformations throughout her tenure.
Greater Morris County Development Corporation, in association with the NetWork Kansas E-Community Partnership, hosted the annual Morris County YEC Competition on Tuesday, March 4, at White City Schools, White City, Kansas. Thirty- four individuals and seventeen teams representing Hope and White City Schools presented their business concepts with a written business plan, a formal presentation to judges, and a tabletop display.
Morris County K-9 Deputy Andrew Lautt and K9 Kimber completed a 240-hour K-9 Handler and Certification Course on Feb. 28., 2025. The training was provided by the Kansas City Missouri Police Department K-9 Unit. Deputy Lautt and Kimber trained on narcotic search and alert in structures and vehicles, Patrol 1 -including suspect location, apprehension, bite and release commands, and tracking.
