TWO SHIRLEYS CELEBRATING AGE 83

TWO SHIRLEYS CELEBRATING AGE 83 -- Shirley Walker and Shirley McClintock shared a birthday dinner at Trail Days Café on Saturday evening. Both ladies share the same first name and turn 83 within days of each other. Shirley McClintock’s birthday was Saturday, March 1 and Shirley Walker’s birthday is March 7. Both ladies talked of their mother’s concern of the world they were being born into, as the Pearl Harbor attack had occurred 3 months before their births. Shirley Walker was born in Indian Mound, Tennessee. Her husband Russell was a railroader and wanted to retire in Council Grove to be close to family. Some of things she remembers fondly in her life was her grandmother, who took her to church meetings. One of the moments in Walker’s life she will remember was when she heard of Elvis Presley’s passing.

LIVING HISTORY . . . Council Grove resident Mark Brooks does an excellent job characterizing Council Grove’s founding father Seth Hays. Brooks shared so many details that Hays would be impressed if he saw the representation.
