Ranger Joe Holcomb joins CG Lake team, discusses next steps
Joseph Holcomb has officially assumed his new position as a Natural Resource Specialist—commonly referred to as a park ranger—at Council Grove Lake under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District. His arrival ends a months-long vacancy delayed by a federal hiring freeze that affected staffing across the Corps’ Kansas area operations.

Maintenance crews are hard at work refreshing classrooms with fresh paint, updating flooring, and ensuring all systems are running at peak efficiency. Technology work continues over the summer in getting old devices removed from the rotation and new devices set up and ready to go, as well as other technology upgrades and repairs throughout the district.
K30 years later: evin Gant reflects on his tornado survival
It has been 30 years since Kevin Gant’s life changed forever on a stormy June 8, 1995, night just south of Wilsey, Kansas. What began as a routine evening—returning home after farming—ended in a moment of violent unpredictability as a tornado picked up his truck and nearly claimed his life. Gant was 37 years old at the time.
