Marcello Balboa earns dual diplomas and high honors at the age of 16

At just 16 years old, Council Grove’s Marcello Balboa Jr. is proving that drive, discipline, and a curious mind can lead to extraordinary achievements. The son of Marcello and Kristina Balboa, Marcello graduated early from Manhattan Virtual Academy in January 2025 with a weighted GPA of 4.39. This spring, he is also earning his Associate of Science degree in Accounting from Butler Community College—accomplishing both milestones before his 17th birthday in September.

Summer-Long Fishing Contest offers fun, prizes, and adventure for youth

From May 1 through August 15, 2025, youth across Kansas are invited to cast a line and join the fun in the 5th Annual Summer-Long Family Fishing Contest, hosted in memory of Walter “Dutch” Honer. Organized by Phil Taunton, host of “What’s in Outdoors,” and a team of generous sponsors, the contest encourages young anglers to enjoy the outdoors while vying for exciting prizes and recognition.
