Charles Bowen, 89, Council Grove, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 at Diversicare of Council Grove.

Jessie Juanita Roberts, 78, Council Grove, Ks., passed away February 13, 2022, at the Diversicare nursing home in Council Grove. She was born on the family farm on June 26, 1943, to Jesse L. & Marjorie H. Platz Bettles of Delavan, Ks. Juanita was the second of three children, and attended school in Delavan & Wilsey, Ks.

Bill Pickett, age 86, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 in Wichita. Services are pending with Sawyer Funeral Home.

Marilyn Louise Glover née Parks was born July 13, 1963 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John Jacob and Alice N. (Hudson) Parks. An “Air Force Brat,” Marilyn spent her early childhood in many locations around the United States and Europe. After John’s retirement, the family returned to Council Grove, KS. Marilyn graduated from CGHS in 1981 and went on to attend Emporia State University, studying musical theater until the birth of her eldest child. She stayed in Emporia for the next few years, working and eventually meeting Michael Glover whom she married in November 1985. They went on to have an additional three children.

Marlene Florence (Hill) went home on January 30, 2022. She was born July 31, 1948 rural Eskridge, Kansas to Ellis and Alice (Stratton) Hill. She attended Eskridge grade and high school.

Esther Myrtle (Kamisky) Brabb, 100, of Council Grove, Kansas formerly of the Welcome Community near Alta Vista, died Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Flossie Cyd Maria Garrett, 68, of Council Grove, passed away February 1, 2022, at her residence.

Virgil Fred Ziegler, 90, passed away January 31, 2022, surrounded by family at the Bramlage House in Manhattan, Kansas. Alta Vista lost one of their last good old guys that day. Virgil was born July 5, 1931, to John and Alice (Strom) Ziegler in the same house he lived his entire life. He graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1949. Virgil worked at the Alta Vista Post Office, drug store, Dierking Garage (which he and Perry Patterson later bought), and in the grocery business. He co-owned Pat and Virg’s IGA for many years, as well as working for other grocery store owners. He enjoyed helping his nephews with their businesses, The Store and McDiffett Service. Virgil began mowing lawns with his nephews and continued mowing the cemetery and other lawns through last summer. He was on the Alta Vista cemetery board as well as serving as the cemetery sexton.

Maxine Luella (Ek) Pickett was born on April 17, 1940, at Geary County Community Hospital, Junction City, KS. Maxine was the youngest child of Reuben and Luella Ek. She had one brother, Don and two sisters, Doris and Betty. Maxine passed away January 25, 2022.
