The Kaw Mission Councils Lecture Series Westward Expansion will be held on May 5th. The May lecture will be “History of the Potawatomie Nation, presented by Jon Boursaw. Jon Boursaw was born in Kansas. He is a descendant of the Bourassa and Ogee families and a member of the Potawatomi Nation.
Jason Ziegler, of Council Grove Stars and Stripes Fireworks announced Thursday that he will no longer do fireworks shows after his Washunga Days show and the Fourth of July presentation. The company will continue to operate its retail stand on North Union Street in Council Grove, Ziegler said that the decision to step away from pyrotechnics has been long in coming. He said, “I have enjoyed the last 13 years of Washunga Days and 10 years with the 4th of July. They are just getting to be too much to take on with my regular workload. I also am getting burnt out with doing them at the scale we are at.”
Carol Hewitt, Council Grove, was recently recognized nationally as an Order of the Engineer Outstanding Link Coordinator. Carol is an accomplished administrator, engaged office manager, and a long-standing advocate for student success and The Order of the Engineer.
In the history of our country, the Flint Hills have produced some amazing leaders. Shawn Tiffany, one of those, announced on Thursday that he is seeking the congressional seat for District 2 that will be vacated by U. S. Representative Jake LaTurner who is not seeking re-election. Tiffany, a conservative and a Republican, is the first to announce a candidacy for LaTurner’s seat.
