TOPEKA (AP) — A high school student has died from injuries after being shot, Topeka police said Wednesday. Joheem Meredith, 18, was taken to a hospital around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday with critical injuries, station WIBW reported. He later died from those injuries, police said.
The Community Mentoring Program is recruiting mentors for the class of 2024 and are looking for adults who are willing to volunteer one hour per month for the next four years to spending time with local youth. The program needs 14 adults to work with the incoming freshman class. Each mentor is assigned a group of five to six freshmen, whom they will meet in the Council Grove High School Commons area for one hour each month during the school year. Groups will meet on the second Thursday of each month from September to May from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

BELLE PLAINE (AP) — A Kansas court has thrown out a lawsuit filed by a civil rights rights group seeking the immediate release of prisoners who have preexisting medical conditions that make them vulnerable to the new coronavirus.
