TWISTER -- The first Kansas tornado of 2020 was spotted on Thursday night in Morris County between Council Grove and Strong City. Austin Crutcher captured the photo of the tornado, with the National Weather Service stating that the report of the tornado came in at 9:30 p.m. There were no reports of damage associated with the tornado, however, Morris County experience strong winds, heavy rain and hail on Thursday night, with Friday possibly bringing more rain to the area.

TOPEKA (AP) — A high school student has died from injuries after being shot, Topeka police said Wednesday. Joheem Meredith, 18, was taken to a hospital around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday with critical injuries, station WIBW reported. He later died from those injuries, police said.
The Community Mentoring Program is recruiting mentors for the class of 2024 and are looking for adults who are willing to volunteer one hour per month for the next four years to spending time with local youth. The program needs 14 adults to work with the incoming freshman class. Each mentor is assigned a group of five to six freshmen, whom they will meet in the Council Grove High School Commons area for one hour each month during the school year. Groups will meet on the second Thursday of each month from September to May from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
HOMETOWN HEROES -- Today’s Hometown Hero is Brandon Walker. Brandon has been a full-time Advanced Emergency Medical Technician for Morris County Hospital for the past three years. He is also a part-time employee of the Alta Vista Fire Department, in which he serves as Assistant Fire Chief. Brandon serves as MCH’s head CPR instructor and offers many CPR courses to the public.
