The Morris County Commissioner meeting was called to order on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. Commissioners David Fox, Jim Barber, and Wayne Kohler were present. Bill Kassebaum, County Counselor, and Chelsey Schmidt, County Clerk, were present.
Bryan Hatcher, of Council Grove, is the winner of the Week 16 contest in the Council Grove Pigskin Pick ‘Em Contest. Hatcher correctly guessed 13 out of 16 NFL football games. After the Monday night NFL game between the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers, which the Packers won 34-0, Hatcher was tied for first place. He won the contest when he correctly guessed the tiebreaker score of 51 between the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears, which the Lions won 34-17, or 51 points total. Hatcher will receive a $25 gift certificate that is redeemable at any of the contest sponsors.
A house fire occurred in Latimer last weekend, resulting in the death of two individuals. Morris County Sheriff Scott Coover said the case has been turned over to the State Fire Marshal. Identities are pending.

Council Grove Junior Senior High School math instructor Jarrod Hibler was inducted into the Halstead High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday. Hibler is from the Halstead High School class of 1997.
