The Council Grove City Council met Tuesday, June 3, in a session marked by passionate discussion and ongoing debate surrounding the City Lake lease issue. Tensions, long simmering over the lake lease controversy, were again at the forefront as council members, legal counsel and lake residents addressed the complex matter.
The candidate filing deadline has closed for Morris County’s 2025 city, school, extension, and improvement district elections.
Jan Lyons of Manhattan, Kansas, has been selected as the 2025 National Golden Spur Award recipient for her contributions to the ranching and livestock industries. Lyons will receive the National Golden Spur Award at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center in Lubbock, Texas, during the annual National Golden Spur Award Honors on Saturday, October 4.
The Community Thrift Store, located at 17 S. 5th Street in Council Grove, is a valuable asset to the area. New and gently used items donated by members of the community are carefully sorted by volunteers, then made available for purchase, typically priced between 25 cents and a dollar or slightly more. Operated entirely by volunteers, this humble store not only offers a unique shopping experience but also gives back generously—supporting those in need, assisting local churches, and most recently, awarding ten $1,000 sponsorships to graduating seniors.
As summer approaches, the Council Grove Aquatic Center is preparing for a full season of swimming, lessons, and private events. Located at 500 Swimming Pool Lane in Council Grove, the Aquatic Center will once again provide a variety of options for individuals and families to enjoy the pool throughout the season.
