As part of Council Grove’s bicentennial festivities, the Community Arts Council will host a hands-on pioneer cooking class on Saturday, August 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Trail Days Café, 803 W. Main, Council Grove.
The Morris County 4-H Horse Show was held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Diamond L Arena in Dwight, Kansas. This year’s fair theme, “Deep Roots, Dusty Boots,” highlights the community’s strong connection to the ranching heritage of the Flint Hills. 4-H members competed in a variety of classes, including Halter, Performance, Ranch, and Timed Event categories. Special thanks go to Tad, Gayle, and Cheyenne Larson for generously allowing the use of their indoor facility.
A musical addition has been made to the City of Council Grove’s bicentennial celebration schedule for Sunday afternoon, August 10. Rich Sounds will move up on the schedule to provide toe-tapping tunes from 3-5 p.m., which allows for the new addition of D & The Deckhands, a group from Wichita, to step into the 5-6 p.m. time slot. The Flint Hills Community Band is still scheduled to perform its concert at 6:30 p.m. All bicentennial activities for the day will be held at Council Oak Park, 200 E. Main, and are free, with the exception of any purchases from Jonny Vs BBQ.
ROTARY SPEAKER -- Evie White was the guest speaker at the Council Grove Rotary Club on Wednesday. She spent the past year in Berlin, Germany, as a Rotary Youth Exchange student, where she furthered her education, learned the language, and immersed herself in German culture. Highlights included helping maintain Holocaust memorial stones, participating in Rotary-led service and travel experiences, and navigating the differences in school and daily life. She appreciated the chance to build friendships with local students and improve her German. This fall, Evie will attend the University of Minnesota, majoring in genetics and cell biology. She is pictured with her father Steve White.
